Read John 7:1-24. The tragedy of the Jewish leaders is that they had the opportunity to listen to Jesus and talk with Him and see His miracles, but their hearts were so hard that they rejected Jesus. They substituted a made-up and false Jesus for the true Jesus. This meant that they missed out on His joy and satisfaction which He alone brings. They hated Him and looked for a way to kill Him.
Jesus explained that if people choose to do God’s will, they will see that Jesus’ teaching has authority and comes from God. Jesus points out that those who reject Him do so because they seek personal glory and have no room in their hearts for Him.
