At our 5PM service this week, we read about Jesus being anointed at Bethany and then entering Jerusalem for the final time before his crucifixion. In this passage, Mary shows immense generosity in pouring out perfume worth a year’s wages onto the feet of Jesus. In doing this, she assessed the value of the perfume and the value of Jesus and found that honouring him was worth this financial sacrifice. Her generosity puts so many of us to shame. This crazy generosity is contrasted with the greed of Judas and we will see how his sin of greed grows and overwhelms him over the next few chapters in John.
