The Problem with Jealousy

Dear Friends,

Acts 5:17-32 – there is a miracle. An angel of the Lord enables the apostles to be released from prison so that they may continue to proclaim Jesus. Nothing can stop the message of the Lord going out. The apostles were put in prison and God released them. Once released from prison, we learn that they never stopped teaching and proclaiming Jesus and going from house to house (Acts 5:42).

We should never be discouraged because God is running His church and directing the spreading of His Word. In Act 5:17 we note that the Sadducees’ reason for attacking the apostles is because they are jealous. Jealousy is a destructive attitude. It destroys us and drives us to destroy other people. The problem with jealousy is that we are not content with who we are.

The great blessing of the Gospel of Jesus is that He saves us and accepts us as we are. Jealous people are threatened by the success of other people and don’t understand that God has a unique plan for us and we will be most content when we focus on being who God has made us rather than striving to be someone else. The Gospel of Jesus continues to take us back to our identity in Christ. May Jesus and not others shape our identity.
